Q: Ford Ranger?
If I lift a 2000 Ford Ranger 3inch what size tire would work best. with out triming to much of the fenders and not killing my gas miliage
6cyl 4.0 liter
A: if its got a 4-banger, ur gonna kill the mileage…. there under powered from the showroom
Q: ford ranger?
how come my 88 ford ranger with a 2.3L and a 5-speed manual gets the same MPG as a new 08 ranger with the same thing.
A: Don’t Know, because you don’t have the same engine. Current 2.3 engine is a duratech. Same engine found in the Focus ST. completly differant engine
Q: Ford Ranger: How do I reset the computer for the check engine light?
I recently replaced my EGR valve in my ‘95 Ford Ranger and yet the check engine light still comes on. I unhooked the battery cables for 15 minutes which caused the light to go off, but it came back on after about an hour of driving. What else is there to do?
A: Well, since you’ve already installed the EGR valve you’ve puchased from Auto Zone, the option of returning the part for a refund is no longer viable. But, I would bet the farm your EGR valve WASN’T the problem. More likely it was the DPFE sensor that needed replaced, NOT the EGR valve. This sensor is either an aluminum bodied rectangular shaped sensor with two rubber hoses and a three wire electrical connector connected to it, or a black pastic sensor if it has already been replaced before. This is a VERY commonly failing part on ALL Ford products. You would need to purchase it from the Ford dealer parts department. Just ask for part number F77Z-9J460-AB at the counter to get the part you need. Hope this helps.
Q: Can a 1987 Ford Ranger transmission fit in a 1994 Ford Ranger pick up?
I am thinking about buying a transmission for my truck, but the transmission I am going to buy is coming out of a 1987 Ford Ranger manual transmission. I have a 1994 Ford Ranger that is also manual. Are they both the same? Or being that it is older, is there much difference?
Actually, I called a transmission shop today and they told me that I couldn’t use an 87 transmission for a 94 because of the electrical differences… Thank you anyway!
A: if they are both 4 speeds you should be fine they ran the same trans’s for many years. an easy way to find out for sure is call discount / or autozone, ask for prices for the clutches for each of those years when they give you the price get the part # on each if the part# is the same on each you are good to go , you can probably do it yourself online
Q: After driving my 97 ford Ranger for several miles and shutting down the engine, I have to wait 5 min to restar
After driving my 97 Ford Ranger for several miles and shutting down the engine, I have to wait five/ten minutes before it will restart. This only happens once ever so often (one out of ten times) . What’s causing this. It acts like the old days of vapor lock.
A: I’d suspect it’s the charcoal canister and it’s plugged up. That allows the fuel tank to vent and you might have some negative pressure in the tank, not allowing the fuel pump to pump fuel into the engine. Next time that happens, unhook the hoses that goes to the canister (under the hood) and see if that helps. Get a replacement and you’re GTG.
Q: What kind of transmission does an 85 ford ranger have?
I have a transmission from a 1990 mustang 2.3 that i believe is an A4LD. Is this the correct transmission for a 1985 ford ranger? Direct swap?
A: What kind of transmission does an 85 ford ranger have? It has an 85 ford ranger transmission.
Q: How much does a ford ranger weigh in tons?
I am trying to scrap a ford ranger xlt with a six banger engine and short cab. How much would the weightage be in tonage?
A: 2 to 3 tons
Q: I am buying a Ford Ranger to build as a offroad prerunner is California registration required?
It will be run strictly offroad but will still resemble a Ford Ranger, so do I have to register it/ transfer the ownership/ etc……?
also what type of registration if I do need to register
A: Greeting,
I am in Ohio and all cars on public properties like roads are require to register else you’re in deep trouble.
I would advice you to check your local BMV else we yahoowers can you in trouble.
Best of luck.
Q: What is the average life expectancy of a Ford Ranger?
I’m looking at buying a used Ford Ranger. A lot of ones I see are 2000’s with around 100,000 miles. About how long or how many miles will they last without serious repairs?
A: depending on the care of the truck. your definately at the last legs of the Ranger motor wise it will likely smoke a little in the morning and may not pass smog checks without fresh tune ups and the like.
if you could find one with a good body but a blown motor at a great price it would be worth getting a new motor and clutch or rebuilt auto trans. they ride good get good milage. you can get a used Ranger cheeper than that Nissan pickup the other guy mentioned and I dont like paying more because it has a name more popular. the Ranger rides better than the Nissan
Q: How would changing the solenoid in a 1987 ford Ranger cause no power?
I changed out the solenoid in my 1987 Ford Ranger, now I have no power at all. The battery shows as having full power when i check it. What could have happened. All the fuses seem to be fine as well.
A: You either didn’t hook the fusible links back up or have them on the wrong side of the solenoid
Q: How do i make my ford ranger look good?
I just got a 2001 ford ranger xlt and even though its 2 wheel drive i wanted to give it a more offroad look. I just turned 16 so im new to this kind of stuff, so if someone could help me it would be much appreciated.
A: Lift kit, roll bars with lights, brush guard, step bars, bed rails
Q: What size tires will a ford ranger clear?
I’m just wondering what size of tires a stock 1993 Ford Ranger will clear…The truck has no suspension mods whatsoever, just a stock truck.
A: If I recall, friends who had one used 29 inch tall on stock 4by without any lift, but I also recall that they had to trim the bottom rear corner of the front wheel wheel so as the fender would not cut into the tread on tight turns. A minimal body lift (not a suspension lift) is a reasonable option to consider for costs as well as keeping the geometry intact for ride and handling. A 1.5 inch lift will let you go to 30’s.
Q: Ford Ranger: Why is my check engine light still on after I fixed the problem?
I have a 1995 Ford Ranger with 205,000 miles and the check engine light came on with the code for “EGR Valve – Insufficient Flow”. Anyway, I replaced the EGR valve for $80.00 and the light is still on. The truck runs a hell of a lot smoother now with a little more power to boot. Why is the light still on? What else could be causing the “insufficient flow”?
A: The EGR valve is opened by a Vacuum Solenoid Switch which is opened by current from the computer. If the VSS isn’t opening, it won’t allow enough vacuum to open the EGR valve. You could also have a vacuum leak, but with 205,000 miles, you could have oil/ carbon build up in the intake, preventing sufficient vacuum to the EGR valve. One other possibility is that the EGR position sensor/ DPFE is sending an incorrect signal to the ECU.
Q: What is causing the reverse not to work in my ford ranger?
I have a 1996 Ford Ranger, I just fixed an overheating problem but the truck will still not go in reverse and I have to shift from low through the gears to get to drive. When in low gear if I let off the gas the truck slows like it is supposed to. What could be causing this issue?
A: Your vaccum modelator is defective and needs to be replaced….Check vaccum line to modulator and make sure it is connected……
Q: What good exhaust company makes dual mufflers for a 2003 Ford Ranger?
I got a 2003 ford ranger and i wanna make it dual exhaust but most exhaust systems i find for my truck are only one exhaust. I looked and i only got one muffler. I want to know what company makes one for mine or how do i make it a dual?
A: The closest you’ll get to dual exhaust is dual tips at the rear merging from where the main exhaust pipe runs under the truck on the passenger side. You won’t have a true dual due to the fuel tank being on the inside of the chassis rail. I also have a 2003 Ranger. It’s a 3.0L RWD Edge model. I’d prefer not to make it true dual because these trucks are not fast to begin with (not even a 4.0L) and after a few hundred dollars worth of exhaust mods it still won’t be worth it ( dollar to power gain ratio ). I worked on real dragstrip musclecars and I would only bother with the dual exhaust if the engine saw a significant gain with just dual exhaust alone. These trucks won’t see that. Putting dual exhaust just for looks also screams “poser” (i.e. wanna be fast, but aren’t) to the keen eye.
