Volvo S80
Thanks all!
A: not only is it relliable and fuel efficient, but its one of the safest cars on the road. It also makes some good power, now you wont be burning the pavement off every light, but youll have enough power to pass those pesky little civics on the highways
Q: Why does a volvo s80 t6 have terrible suspension?
I purchased a 2003 volvo s80 t6 with 120 000 kms on the clock. Soon i noticed that the car seemed to rattle and it has a hard suspension. The car does not handle or feel like a prestige car. The noise it makes on the road surface is irritating. Is this common to these cars?
A: The stiff suspension is a by-product of handling so you can feel the road better,
The rattling is probably your sway bar link rods or your strut mount bushings and bearings.
another common suspension issue on these is the control arm bushings.
One last unrelated thing check your timing belt for cracks.
Q: Does the new Volvo S80 have a flashing rear windshield brake light?
I saw an S80 where the third brake light – the bar in the rear windshield – flashed like a warning every time the driver hit the brakes. Is this an add-on or something new for Volvo? I have a 1999 S80 and am interested in adding this safety feature to my car. Thanks!
A: No this is not factory installed. To my knowledge some car companies (mercedes) are starting to look at putting a feature in to strobe the brake lights in emergency braking maneuvers, but this is not the norm. Especially if the brake light flashes every time the vehicle brakes, then this would defeat the purpose of alerting people to an emergency stop or a driver attempting an emergency braking maneuver. I’ve included a link below of a sample brake light flasher add-on. Lexus also has something similar to the mercedes, but it acts more so in an offensive sense and not a defensive sense. On their european models of the LS 600h they have a rear millimeter wave radar that monitors traffic behind you and if a person is coming up too fast when you are slowing or stopped, it will flash your brake lights at them as a precautionary measure. If you would like to add this feature onto your car, look into a third party market as your volvo dealer will not do this for you for liability reasons. Volvo does have something called crash warning with brake assist, where if you are about to rear-end someone it will flash a simulated brake light on your windshield to alert you to them stopping. Let me know if you need any more assistance or have any more questions about this or other automotive safety issues.
Q: What type of power steering fluid do you use for a 2001 Volvo S80?
I may have a leak but, right now I need to add some fluid. What type of power steering fluid should I use for my 2001 Volvo S80 ?
A: either All Pentosin Green Top steering Fluid meeting CHF 7.1 standards Pentosin or All Pentosin Red Top steering Fluid Cars meeting CHF11s standards Pentosin the owners manual should say.
Q: What kind of problems should I expect to find in a 2001 Volvo S80 2.9?
I’ve been searching for a new car for a while now and I recently looked at a 2001 volvo s80. it has 95000 miles on it and is being sold for $5000. Is this car known for problems?
A: My Dad owns this car. Other than a recall for the throttle body, the car has been trouble free for the 100k+ miles that he has owned it since new. As long as the car was well maintained, there should be no problems.
Q: Is a Volvo S80 with 160,000 miles still a good dependable car?
So im interested in buying a 2001 Volvo S80, im just concerned with the amount of miles it has. It has 160,000 which i know is a lot and i just dont want it to break down or begin to have problems. Other than that it looks and runs great!
Any suggestions or past experiences would be appreciated!
A: Well looked afer Volvo Estates can often be seen with 200k plus and still be relaible.
Considering the Estate version is usually the one that gets the heavier loading I’d say 160k is nicely broken in.
Pay for an independant engine check and if you discover a major fault you will have the choice of repairing or not buying.
We have had 4 Volvos all over 200k and only one was problematic with the engine. Traffic calming bumps took out the suspension on one 3 times, and that one we sold with 240k and were getting good motorway fuel mileage and the engine had just passed another MOT.
Q: Is the 1999 Volvo s80 a reliable and fuel efficent car?
Is the 1999 Volvo s80 a reliable and fuel efficent car? Thinking about buying one.
Thanks all!
also it good for parts in Australia? cheers
A: volvos are known for their safety and reliability for years.
they have won a lot of safety awards at automobile expos.
the S80 is definitely one of them.
It’s fuel efficiency is decent.
If the miles are low, why not?
Q: How can I make my Volvo S80 faster?
I have a 2001 Volvo S80 2.9 V6. What would be the best and most cost effective option to make the car a bit faster? Turbo perhaps?
Any info would be great!
Cheers!
A: Turbo charging the car is a big task and hardly “cost effective” You would do better to find a used T6 engine to drop in. Even better, the space will accomodate the s60R engine if you can find one. Again, it’s a big job but will take you to 300hp out of the box.
On the easier side, replacing the facory air box with a high flow filter will yield a small HP boost. You can also send the ECU off to be remapped via a company like IPD for a quick 40hp or so.
Just remember, the car is built to handle the engine that is in it. If you start doing major changes, you will have to address major components such as the tranny or the suspension.

Q: I was planning to buy a 1999 Volvo S80 T6 with 95k Miles on it.Are volvo’s reliable, how long do they go?
I invite any previous or current owners of Volvo s80 specifically the 1999 model to comment about their car in terms of reliability and all other important factors.
I invite any previous or current owners of Volvo s80 specifically the 1999 model to comment about their car in terms of reliability and all other important factors. How many more miles can we put on this vehicle with already 95 k
A: with 95K on the clock I will not touch it with a barge pole. Transmission and electrical problems are many and a T6 with that much mileage is sure to have wear and tear which you will end up paying for to fix. Stay away.
Q: How can I use the integrated phone of my Volvo S80 (year 2000)?

Q: what do you think about buying a 2002 volvo s80 w/ 160K?
i am looking at a 2002 volvo s80. It looks flawless, it has all the bells and wistles, and its a decent price because of miles. Should i take the risk?
A: 99 to 2001 had there troubles 2002 were a lot better. Pending on the price I would take it to your garage and get it checked out. Other than that I would take a chance. Also as the transmissions unfortunately with that many miles . You never know . Your mechanic can check it for fluid color and operation. I have several s80 with over 200,000 miles with no trans problems

A: Anything Bilstein or Koni. Don’t know what they make for Volvo but you’ll pay far out the *** for the good sauce.
